healthy lunchesHave you decided that this school year will finally be the year that you try your best to make healthy, and great tasting lunches for your children?  It is back to school time, and there is no time like the present to get started.  Dr. Kantor recently interviewed with The Olympian and gave many great suggestions for what to pack for school, as well as healthy afterschool snacks.  It is extremely important to make lunch for your children, even though all households are very busy these days. We have an obesity epidemic in the US and by 2020 half of our population will be obese, including children.  This means that we need to do anything and everything we can to prevent this, starting with teaching children healthy habits while they are young.  Avoiding processed foods with all of the additives, dyes, preservatives, excess sugar and salt is very important, and by making their lunch we know exactly what is going into it. Water is also an essential nutrient that seems to have been forgotten. Dr. Kantor suggests that we pack water, not sugary drinks for children.  This will keep them hydrated and keep glucose levels from being increased during the school day. If this is the year you want to start making healthier meals for your kids, listen to this interview for great suggestions and information.
