Easter is right around the corner and it is the biggest day of the year after Halloween for candy sales. Recently we have seen a trend with more and more parents looking for healthier alternatives to they typical sugary treats. So what are they and are there really alternatives that are going to make kids happy? Dr. Kantor shares his best tips and tricks in this interview with WFIN Radio. He reminds us that we don’t need to make them give up everything. It is fine to enjoy treats in moderation but there are a few tricks that can help cut down on some of the more unhealthy options. He suggests including little toys instead of just food; for example plastic eggs filled with plastic spiders for boys or play jewelry for girls. For the sugary treats, the healthier treats out there are the darker chocolates. They tend to be healthier and have less chemicals, trans fat and hydrogenated oils. You can also make your own homemade crème filled chocolate eggs, which really is easy! (recipes on blog.greenboxfoods.com)
They also discussed Dr. Kantor’s new book, The Green Box League of Nutritious Justice, which is a healthy living book for children and their families. It really is a family resource with animated characters for all of the fruits, veggies, and proteins – the good guys who are all part of The Green Box League of Nutritious Justice against The Legion of Unhealthy Injustice led by OBCD. The book contains comics, recipes, exercises, and interactive activities for the children.
