From Craig Capetta on the Whole Body Research blog
I have a confession to make…
Even though I’m a health nut, I still have a bit of a soft spot for McDonald’s french fries. I always steal a few from my son when he comes home with them…I can’t help it! But as much as I love them, I’ve decided I’m not going to eat them anymore.
And I’ll tell you why…
Recently, McDonald’s has been releasing YouTube videos that portray their food as “healthy” or “natural.” And on the surface – if you just casually watch them – that’s the message you’ll get. For example, in their french fry video, they make a big deal about the fact that they use three different types of Russet potatoes. But if you really pay close attention to the video, you see a different picture altogether.
In the french fry video, again, they simply gloss over the fact that their “ingredient dip” contains massive amounts of preservatives, added sugars, and artificial ingredients. And what really worries me the most is that none of the major media outlets have caught onto this.
At the end of the day, McDonald’s french fries actually contain 19 different ingredients…many of them artificial flavors and synthetic additives.
Now, ask yourself, do you really need 19 ingredients for fried potatoes?
Here’s just a few of the artificial ingredients in McDonald’s French fries:
- Sodium acid pyrophosphate
- Dextrose (added sugar)
- Citric acid
- TBHQ
Now, the FDA has approved these chemicals as “safe for human consumption” and other massive food conglomerates use these additives, as well. But they’re definitely not natural, and here’s my issue with it…
As you know, eating preservatives can actually block your body from properly digesting food – preventing you from getting the nutrients you need. Plus, those added sugars can create an “addiction” where you’re constantly craving unhealthy foods more and more…feeding the Candida and other bad bacteria in your gut in the process.
And there’s one ingredient that really concerns me as someone who eats healthy and who is very careful about what I put in my body…and that is:
Dimethylpolysiloxane.
This chemical is added to the oil blend to keep it from foaming during the frying process.
But it’s also added to industrial products like silicone caulks, adhesives, silly putty, and sealants.
Now, again, even though Dimethylpolysiloxane is FDA-approved, it just doesn’t sit well with me.
It’s just NOT natural.
And at Whole Body Research, our entire philosophy is that Mother Nature got it right the first time. And that’s what we’re trying to get back to…nature. That’s why I’ve spent the last few weeks experimenting with different processes, until I came up with a recipe for “copycat” fries – without any of those artificial and chemical additives.
And this recipe uses just 5 natural ingredients!
These fries are also much easier on your waistline. Consider this fact…A large fries from McDonald’s weighs in at a whopping 510 calories and has 24 grams of fat.
Using this Whole Body recipe, the same amount of fries has only 5 grams of fat – as a result, these fries contain 300 fewer calories than the McDonald’s fries.
And to give you an idea of how great these things taste, check this out: my teenage son loves them!
