ObamacareTaylor Thomas of WHUR Radio recently interviewed Dr. Kantor about Obamacare, and specifically why young Americans are rejecting it. Dr. Kantor believes that a major reason is that they feel invincible and if the cost of insurance is too high, they would rather take their chances and go without coverage. Because of the various new mandates, and the fact that the anticipated influx of 30 million new people to help cover costs hasn’t happened, rates are going up. To keep rates for families and elderly lower, the increases are being pushed on the young (especially the young singles).

They also spoke about the administration teaming up with the group, the Young Invincibles, who are running a video contest in an attempt to get young Americans involved and educated about health care.  Since young people aren’t exactly flocking to sign up for Obamacare, the administration is trying anything they can to get them engaged. It sounds like a great idea, but should we have to make funny videos to convince people to get health insurance?

Dr. Kantor says that the best way around the Affordable Care Act is to lead a healthy lifestyle, and  to ask your employer to engage with a good health and wellness company.  These companies will help you learn to live a healthy lifestyle, and will put you on a good nutrition and exercise regimen to help prevent and mitigate diseases before they occur.
