Southington Chef Creates Children’s Nutrition Book

SOUTHINGTON — After nearly 30 years cooking for celebrities like Julia Child and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Pete Crouth recently decided to use his skills to help children.

Besides cooking, one of Crouth’s dreams has always been to write a book to teach children how to eat healthy. His dream came true in January after the book he helped co-author called “Green Box Foods League of Nutritious Justice” was released.

Teaming up with Keith Kantor, chief executive officer of Service Foods Inc., Dana Yarn, a holistic registered dietitian, and Karen Kantor, a registered nurse, Crouth helped create the activity book to promote healthier eating. The book has more than 270 pages.

“I can equate it to an artist or a painter with their bare canvas that’s open space,” said Crouth, a Southington resident. “I use a plate in that manner. It’s an open canvas for a chef.”

The book teaches children about fruits and vegetables from “A to Z.” Each one has a name such as “Bianca Broccoli,” “Allie Asparagus” and “Charlie Cherry” and how it can be used as a snack…
