healthy kidsDr. Kantor recently addressed the health of school lunches with Utah Family Magazine and how we as parents can make better choices with and for our children. Dr. Kantor says that a major reason that we have an obesity epidemic is that our children are not taught nutrition in schools.  Proper nutrition, benefits of exercise, the importance of  drinking water and learning about how all of this affects our bodies needs to be taught in our school’s health classes. What we also really have to do, is to find a way to make healthy living cool and fun. So what is the first step for parents wanting to make a change towards a healthier lifestyle?  Planning – do a Sunday prep where all of the meals for the week can be made or prepped, placed in containers, ready to go for the week. In regards to lunches, make and assemble as much of the lunch as possible the night before. If you think about it, wouldn’t you rather spend your time and money towards having a healthy family and preventing disease, than to spend it on medical costs and doctors visits?
