dietHow can food and diet affect love life and relationships? How do our food choices really matter? Dr. Kantor discussed this just in time for Valentine’s Day with LA News Group. The real way that our diet can affect our mood and relationships is through our sex hormones testosterone, estrogen and progesterone.  What we eat does affect how we feel and our libido, and in turn our relationships. For example, for men, tofu, soybeans, whole wheat, barley, oats, and prunes lower testosterone levels and can have a negative impact on sex life. Lean meats, cheese milk, shitake mushrooms, Mackerel, almonds and olive oil increase testosterone levels and can have a positive impact on libido and love life. For women, foods dense in sugar or high in simple carbs like pasta or French fries can have a negative impact on progesterone.  This leads to estrogen dominance, which can cause mood swings, depression and loss of sex drive. Lean beef, pork, poultry, fish, eggs, walnuts, sunflowers seeds, avocado and spinach will aid in progesterone production and helps increases sex drive and a positive mood.

The also discussed Dr. Kantor’s new  book, The Green Box League of Nutritious Justice, which Dr. Kantor saw a need for as the health care crisis gets worse and worse. The only way to really fix it is to start with our children and have them educated in living a healthy lifestyle with their families.  Dr. Kantor developed this book as an easy, step by step plan for families to get engaged in healthier eating and to get active together.
