Obesity with WPXI Radio Physicians have said it all along that obesity is a disease, not a disorder or condition, because it leads to so many other health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke to name a few. Dr. Kantor agrees with the AMA’s recent decision to classify obesity as a disease and recently discussed why with WPXI Radio. The facts are that the obesity rate in America has increased to 30% of adults and that childhood obesity has doubled in the last 30 years. By recognizing obesity as a disease, doctors will be able to treat it more aggressively, which now they don’t. Forcing insurance companies to pay up front for care to prevent and fight this disease will hopefully help to save the overall health care system, and the American people.
