healthy kidsA big concern for our children today is that they are addicted to sugar, evident by the rising obesity rates.  These rates coincide with our schools not having daily gym classes, nutrition not being taught and overall less activity among children.  Dr. Kantor recently discussed these facts and what we can do about them with Brownfield Ag News. He says that even though school lunches have improved, parents should take the time to make their children a lunch so that they know exactly what their children are eating. With so many unhealthy food choices out there, what are some healthy options? Dr. Kantor suggests non-processed foods, or foods that are as close to natural as possible, avoiding preservatives, dyes, and artificial flavors. Substitute the colorful drinks that contain dyes, excess sugar and sodium with plain or fruit infused water. Instead of pre-made PB&J’s with white bread and high-fructose corn syrup, serve them all-natural, gluten free bread (due to many gluten allergies or sensitivities) or all-natural whole wheat bread with 1-2 tbsp of all-natural peanut or almond butter and natural fruit spread, apple slices, carrots and hummus.  They also discuss GMO’s and Dr. Kantor gives his opinion on their safety.
