Nutrition to the Rescue!

A book called The Green Box League of Nutritious Justice, co-authored by Plantsville chef Peter Crouth, was recently honored by The Mom’s Choice Awards, a globally recognized program that evaluates products and services created for children and families.  It won a Gold Award for best children’s picture book.

Crouth, a catering manager at Cosi in Avon, noticed that kids don’t know how to eat in a healthy manner.  “I saw the alarming rate of obesity among children,” he says.  Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign, he started writing the book in 2010.  He appealed to kids’ love of animation. “Why don’t I take the same concept, make some super heroes and villains, animate fruits, vegetables and proteins and see how that works!” he thought.
